Slackware 13.37, what is the difference between huge.s and hugemps.s kernels ?
I'm trying to decide which kernel to install in
my Slackware 13.37 installation. What is the difference between huge.s and the hugemps.s kernels ? Does one do something the other does not ? I'm installing Slackware because I've read it has no Pulsemedia baked into it. I hope neither kernel has any of that stuff. Where do I go to find this out ? |
Pulseaudio (not Pulsemedia) has nothing to do with the kernel.
To your question: The huge.s kernel is for machines with only one single-core CPU without Hyperthreading. The hugesmp.s (not hugemps.s) kernel is for machine with either single-core CPU with Hyperthreading, multi-core CPU or more than one CPU. |
Have a look the Slackware-HOWTO that mentions the differences between the supplied kernels. If you've not seen the document before it's a good idea to go through it - it explains a lot.
