On Ubuntu I was running an RSS program called Tickr. There was another I was interested in trying (Snackr), but I could never get the Adobe Air to install properly since it apparently was no longer supported on Ubuntu (no clue about Slackware).
I was wondering if anyone knows a good RSS ticker type program for Slackware that is kind of the same as these (or if they know how to install one of these, a walkthrough would be welcomed).
I usually have the tickr running on the bottom of my external monitor as I don't have time to manually sort through RSS subscriptions, I just let it run with the newest 20 or so and I can click on a link that interests me, otherwise it doesn't take up any of my time to stay on top of it.
I'm the dev for Tickr and I just happened to read your post. I really don't know much about Slackware but, as I use 'alien' to generate rmp packages on my website, I just tried with tgz. I'm not sure the packaging is ok, but if you want to give it a try, it's here:
Wow, the developer responding to my ticket. I'm quite honored you hang around these forums. I must say I do love your little program and have been using it for a number of months now.
As for the packages, I have installed it, but it is giving me a message that the package was not created with makepkg. It still said it was installed, but running it gives me the error message "No protocol specified". I've ran into this a few times lately and I think I just got to reboot my PC to fix. Once I've finished what I'm currently doing, I'll reboot and try again and let you know.
Ok, I just rebooted and ran the program, and aside from needing to setup my config file (or transfer from my Ubuntu laptop to my Slackware), it seems to work perfectly. I'll set it up today if I have a chance, if not it will be Monday. But once I have it working again, I let you know so that you can post the packages on your site and let it be known that it also runs on Slackware
Thanks again, I still think it's amazing the developer gave me my answer and I appreciate it immensely.
Ok, so I've copied over my config files from my other laptop and it does seem to be working properly. I think I just might need to tweak them a bit for Slackware (like the background isn't transparent for some reason, even though it is set...), or just get use to it. But it is working well enough for me to use.
