After doing a lot of digging, I've begun to wonder if the problem might be the ATI Radeon X300SE card that's in the thing (seems like folks have had problems with the open source drivers for those guys). I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that ATI's proprietary drivers don't want to compile with Slackware 13.x and I can turn off the Radeon in the BIOS and use the built-in video controller (I think it's an Intel 8xx or 9xx). If a solution might be ATI's drivers, and they'll compile in 13.1, well, that might be worth a shot.

Anybody know if that's viable?
