slackware 12.1, audicious fails to play wav files

Background

So I recently installed slack 12.1. Xmms doesn't work. Turns out it's not included with slack: xmms itself is abandoned, though there is a xmms2 project. Oh. So I tried audacious because it comes with slack now. It can be made to look like xmms and it plays mp3, ogg and flac. Great. Problem solved.

Problem

It won't play wav files.

On this thread: http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action...parentID=15138
I see that others have had the same problem. A solution was not mentioned in that thread, or in any other things that google returned.

The FAQ for the program itself http://audacious-media-player.org/faq (which was found on the audacious page at http://audacious-media-player.org ) does not say that it does not play wav files but it does not say that it should, either.

Actual question

Is the version of Audacious that comes with slackware 12.1 supposed to be able to play wave files?

Thank you in advance.

You can compile xmms for 12.1 easily using the SlackBuilds.org proyect.
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12.1/audio/xmms/
Just in case: http://slackbuilds.org/howto/

As for audacious.. did you install audacious-plugins ?
The thread you posted belongs to Slax.
Everything should work in Slackware

Yep, when I installed sw 12.1 and use xfce, it played wav mp3 wma with no problems. Also sw 12.2 with xfce too, it plays right out of the box.

So it's safe for me to conclude that audalicious is just broken on my machine. Thanks for the replies.

Audacious doesn't play wavs on 12.1 for me either. I am pretty sure it did on 12.0. Wavs play fine with play, aplay, xine, gxine, ffplay, etc. I tend not to do a full install and I run a custom kernel but I can't work out what I have left off the install that might make audacious work and I have tried the stock generic kernel without luck.

Assuming you have flac installed ( ) if you check the -current Changelog of Thu Sep 11 00:49:16 CDT 2008 you'll see: ap/flac-1.2.1-i486-2.tgz: Recompiled to bring back the XMMS plugin.
So I would try that one, either from source or the 12.2 package
Of course, you could carefully read xmms -compile options, flac's etc.
I would try what I said above 1st to save time.
Good luck

Hello hello,

Just so where clear, I need to rebuild my audacious so it can play .wav files? What do I do? I just have .wav files, me dont like mp3. Anything else I can do? The plugin is there. Are there any other plugins? How do you install them?

I just want the wav files to play...
