slackware 12 usb drive

Howdi all i just installed Slackware 12 onto my Acer laptop and everything runs sweet and im running KDE. However, i plug in my 300 gig external drive and it recognises it and gives me a 'security' message and doesnt let me use it.

"A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to this recipient, see message bus configuration file(rejected message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume"member "Mount" error name "(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal")

And thats the error message ^^^^ sorry for being so much of a noob at linux any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know a more elegant way to solve this, but I just mount it manually via terminal.

Quote:
mount /dev/sdX /mnt/external
something like that.

It's probably some random security group/permissions thing I haven't come a accross a solution for.

Somebody on another thread said add yourself to :
plugdev, audio, cdrom, etc.
(I lost the thread, but I think that's some of the stuff he listed)

I just added plugdev today. I don't know what that does though.

[edit]I was a bit rude here -- I will just say next time try searching for the error you receive before posting. If you did search and turned up nothing, by all means post. But a simple search for "A security policy in place prevents..." would turn up dozens of results, all of which would answer your question.

Just for future reference.[/edit]
