Slackware 10, Where is Java?

I did a full install of Slackware 10, and java is supposed to come with it, no? If I type java at the command line, it can't be found.

What am I doing wrong? Should I still install it manually although I did the full install?

Thanks for you're help!

cat /usr/lib/java/README
man java
/usr/lib/java/bin/java

It seems that /usr/lib/java/bin is not in your PATH

ok, so Java is supposed to be in /usr/lib/

Anyways, what's the point of installing it if it's not in your path? Who wouldn't want it in his path?

I know about the man pages, but as a total newbie I still need to learn a lot of basic commands. I just found out that you can use 'locate java' or something like that. Go figure :)

Thanks.

/usr/lib/java/bin is already in your PATH by default.

If that is true, then how come the "java" or "javac" command cannot be found?

Did you use normal user? java is in normal user PATH already. Root is not.

well if you know where it is, and $PATH does not include it ... then edit /etc/profile ... you wanna look at about line 18. (on Slackware 10)

ok, that might be it! I was logged in as root for the installation of eclipse. I will try again tonight as normal user.

Thanks.
