Okay i just installed slackware 10 and everything seems to have gone well. I replaced an existing partition that had mandrake on it. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to linux but i thought this was more of a distribution problem than a general nooB problem so i posted it here. I switched because i didnt like the feel of mandrake and i needed something a bit faster for emulation.

Basically, i installed it to dual boot and thankfully that works fine. I boot up linux, login as root, and then use the "startx" command to load up Gnome. I get a blank screen. Nothing. I searched and found the xorgconfig might fix the problem. I went through that and still nothing. Any idea why or has this happened to lots of other people?I would appreciate it if you could help. Thanks.

Try xorgsetup instead. It detects hardware by itself.

Also...don't start Gnome (or any GUI) as root. Create a normal user for yourself.
