Slackware 10.1 XMMS error
For some reason whenever I run XMMS I get the following error:
sh-3.00$ xmms *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x4067dd99 *** Now it was working before. I have tried to search google with no luck. I run Slackware 10.1 with current updates using Slapt-get and swaret. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx |
Nevermind I found it:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...highlight=xmms I have to reinstall xmms from source because of a problem with the current xmms. Thanx |
You do realize they stopped developing XMMS, you should switch to Beep Media Player which is based off of xmms... ;)
|
Is this true? The last realease seems to have been more than a year ago.
|
I don't think they stopped it.. they've activity on their cvs changelog: http://cvs.xmms.org/cvsweb.cgi/~chec...xmms/ChangeLog
|
I thought they did. I mean its been a year since the last version change.. and its starting to get a bit too old and featureless...
I switched to amarok, and i like it quite alot.. so i guess its bye bye xmms for me. |
I don't know why they didn't port it to gtk2 themselves. I use it occassionally but Amarok seems to do a better job.
|
Well, it seems some people think like you and that's why Beep Media Player (thanks trickykid) is out there (it's based on XMMS but uses gtk2).
I never had a problem with XMMS in -current, but I've just installed the version from CVS and works good and now I can finally configure the ALSA output plug-in, go xmms! |

I have beep installed on FC3 and I quite like it, but I was just suprised that the xmms project stuck with gtk1 instead of gtk2. GTK3 will probably be out in a year+ and some people may end up having to install 3 versions of gtk, so that they can use their favorite apps if gtk2 is not compatible with gtk3.
