slackware 10.1, snd-emu10k1 & gnome

Hello all,

I am having a problem with sound in gnome. I have a Soundblaster Live Value that I have used for 2 years or so. I've never had a problem with it until I installed Slackware 10.1 and here is the problem I am having...

alsconf, alsamixer run fine, although alsamixer is not showing all the possible options that I generally have with this card. I am mainly looking for capture setting which is not an option. The next issue I seem to have is gnome does not recognize any soundcards are available. KDE (which throughly disgusts me) recognizes the sound cards and sound works.. but still no capture option.

I remember in previous installs, the gnome volume control always listed TWO mixers one labeled as OSS mixer one labeled as Soundblaster, or similar, the OSS mixer had the limited options, like I am seeing with alsamixer, the soundblaster listed all of the options that i currently no longer have.

Does anyone have any ideas what I might need to do?

Try modprobe snd_pcm_oss also check if esd is running. I don't know if it will help. I run a sbpci 128

modprobe snd_emu10k1_synth
modprobe snd_mixer_oss
modprobe snd_pcm_oss
modprobe snd_seq_oss

use 'alsamixer -V capture' to view only the capture settings

Well, in my searches I had tried that as well, with no additional luck at all. esd was never running, so that could not of been the culprit.

I did come up witha workaround that is sufficient enough for me, I installed the 2.6.7 kerenl from 10.0 along with 10.0's alsa packages. Now everything is working as it was before the 10.1 install I know its not a solution.. but its a good/great enough for me work around

if you were running a different kernel,
then just d/l and install the alsa modules manually
