Slackware 10.1 or Kernel 2.6.11.6 Autofs support

does the autofs support come built with the installation of slackware 10.1 or the kernel 2.6.11.6? if so does it configure itself automatically and all i have to do is enable it? the reason why i'm asking is because i want to use what i have already and the big question mark is i don't know what i have. i chose the default install.

i basically want to have the cdrom and the usb thumb drives to automount and umount themselves. at the moment i have to mount them manually.

i wasn't sure if i needed this to do this http://iki.fi/karvinen/linux/doc/aut...ng-autofs.html to create the automount.

i really want to avoid having anything double to avoid any conflicts in the future.

thanks.

I have autofs enabled and I use it to automount cd/dvd drive and nfs share

- Install autofs package
- cp /usr/doc/autofs-x.x.x/samples/auto.master /etc

for cdrom, I edited /etc/auto.master as follow :
Code:
# ...
# ...
/cdrom /etc/auto.cdrom
then I created /etc/auto.cdrom file with the content (my cdrom is /dev/hdd) :
Code:
cdrom -fstype=iso9660,ro :/dev/hdd
I issued these commands :
Code:
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.autofs
/etc/rc.d/rc.autofs start
Now to automount the cdrom :
Code:
cd /cdrom/cdrom
ls
To umount it :
Code:
cd
eject hdd

You've it, it's just not installed by default, it's on: /usr/doc/autofs-3.1.7/samples/rc.autofs.in

Oh, and read carefully what keefaz said, you've to copy other file too (which is in the same location as this one) and create the latest:
Quote:
- Install autofs package
- cp /usr/doc/autofs-x.x.x/samples/auto.master /etc
...........
then I created /etc/auto.cdrom file with the content (my cdrom is /dev/hdd) :

My bad, I forget two points :

- download rc.autofs from :
http://mariner.cs.ucdavis.edu/slackw...ware/rc.autofs
(because this script is more lighter and adapted for slackware only)

- mkdir /cdrom (I can't remember if it is needed, but in case...)
