Slackware 10.0 sound issues-- CD playing

So, I want to play an audio cd on my slack 10.0 box. First, as suggested in a guide I found somewhere, I ran alsamixer and unmuted/turned up all the channels. "aplay /usr/share/sounds/phone.wav" played a phone noise just fine.

I then realized I had no idea what program could play a cd. I looked around but couldn't find anything, so I started KDE. In there, I used their CD playing app, which started fine, but produced no sound. (as in, the tracks started playing, but with no volume.) If I plugged my headphones into the jack on the cd drive, I got music; if I put them into the soundcard jack which had worked fine for playing sounds on the commandline, nothing.

So, A. how do I play a cd from the command line? Is it possible?
B. Why am I not getting sound from the cd player in KDE?

Hi endersdouble as for playing cds from command line just have a look for some programs to do it (There might even be some on the slack cds)

Secondly you donīt get sound because you donīt have a cable in between your cdrom drive and sound card/sound input on your motherboard.

Windows uses some software that automatically gets around the missing cable... canīt remember how... digital somthing somthing.

Good luck

Digital audio extraction? Ah. I'll fix that. Does anyone know if slack 10.0 comes with any commandline cd players? (Currently, the box is not internet-connected, so it'd be a hassle to download a new app.
