if the .tgz is the slackware package created from the amd installer, yes.

Tried again and steam will not launch with a GLX error. I know the error was resolved at one point when I reinstalled the driver. I tried that and no change, I'm at a loss as to what to do from here.

I tried to help you regarding installing multilib packages (and compat32 too) and avoiding overwrite them when launching slackpkg upgrade-all.

unfortunately I haven't any ati card nor I use steam, so forgive me if I can't help much on the matters.

I just had to deal with that (the missing libc6.so.conf). Turns out I had a misconfigured slackpkgplus.conf.

I should have had the following activated:
