slackpkg updated from current

Hi im new with linux and im trying slackware. i updated a 12 to current and it seems i lost all configurations. the startx command displays "error while loading shared libraries cannot open shared file. can you give me a hint what to do

You can not use slackpkg to do a jump-upgrade. Slackpkg will be able to upgrade from one version to the next. You should have gone 12.0 > 12.1 > 12.2 > 13.0 > 13.1 > 13.37 > 14.0 > current.
That is an effort which I myself would not undertake. In your case, the best option is a full re-install of Slackware. You are missing too many packages which have been added to Slackware inbetween all those years.

What he said, plus you should always back up your configuration files before a critical update/upgrade.
