# slackpkg install geany
Looking for geany in package list. Please wait... DONE
No packages match the pattern for install. Try:
/usr/sbin/slackpkg reinstall|upgrade
slpkg is able to install things that aren't included with Slackware. But, before you start using fancy tools, it would be worth learning how to build packages from slackbuilds. This helps you know what to do if/when things go wrong with a slackbuild or when there isn't one available in one of the online resources (like on someone's github page, for example) because this would probably prevent you from using slpkg.
Bear in mind that Eric began writing this article in 2008, and despite some further edits it doesn't mention e.g. the availability of NetworkManager that was introduced later in Slackware. Still, it is one of the best readings if you want to configure your network manually, I think.
It's not possible that you used only this installer, as it doesn't ship any Slackware package: believe me or not, I know pretty well what it contains You didn't answer to this post but what did you end up using as packages source, and what did you install (what packages series)?
