Slackpkg refuses to update - always claims a GPG error

I think I'm missing a package it requires because I installed slack on an eeepc with limited hdd space. Note that I do have installed the various gpg packages. I just don't undertand what's wrong. I've tried a bunch of different mirrors, all with the same result. Any ideas?
I've also tried slackpkg update gpg, to no avail...

Code:
root@darkstar:/home/mouse# slackpkg update

GPG Fail

This may not be your case...

When I had that problem I tried everything that you did, then I realized that the date and time on my system were way off. According to the system when I ran the 'date' command, it was 1972. So check your date and time settings and see what they say.

I wish I had a more scientific or informed answer, but it worked for me. Good luck!

Oh, unless I'm mistaken, this line could be a clue from what you've posted...

Looks like I've got the exact same problem....caused by installing another distro on a spare drive. Got my system time back to "correctness" yet slackpkg still spits out the gpg signature checksum error message as per the above and I can't upgrade.

Is there a painless remedy for this?

I had the same issue. I simply switched off gpg checking (and I think the crc check also) and only then did it work. But of course if the package is corrupt then I will have a problem (or might ?). It's not an ideal solution. The settings for the above are in the conf file.

# If CHECKMD5 is "on", the system will check the md5sums of all packages before
# install/upgrade/reinstall is performed.
CHECKMD5=off

# If CHECKGPG is "on", the system will verify the GPG signature of each package
# before install/upgrade/reinstall is performed.
CHECKGPG=off

Thanks Mark Pettit..worked fine as you stated for this go round. My question at this point would be if switching them both back to "on" will only cause the problem during future upgrades. I got away ok this time, but as stated it's hardly an ideal solution for system security.

Oh, thanks guys, it never occurred to me to check the system time. Wow. 2002!? That's kind of off. it's my girlfiend's and sometimes she lets the battery drain all the way, so the system time gets reset... that must be it.

Thanks again. I'll try to change it when I next have access to her computer.

I'm having the same issue, but all solutions listed here have failed. Upon updating the package list, the GPG key verification fails for slackware.com/...../slackware13.0 with gslapt My system date and time are correct, and I've turned off verification, and it still does it.

With slapt-get (decided to try command line as well) it simply fails to download the package list from linuxpackages.net

Sorry for answering to an old topic.
But i had the very same problem and i could fix it with the command:
Code:
slackpkg update gpg
This checks if the Slackware GPG key is "installed", if the
key does´nt exist, it downloads and installs the key.

This solved my problem. So if you get the error, check if the slackware
GPG key is installed.

For the time problem you can this to /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
Code:
/usr/sbin/ntpdate -b time.caltech.edu

This probably isn't the best approach. First, running ntp is probably better than ntpdate and second, you should never, ever point to a specific time server unless you have permission. Always use a pool server. This site give a lot of helpful information.

Hangdog42 is correct, but I still fail to see why that post was connected with slackpkg as in OP's original question.

I got that line from the Armedslack installation intructions, heading 6.1.2:
ftp://ftp.armedslack.org/armedslack/...STALL_QEMU.TXT

Code:
echo "/usr/sbin/ntpdate rolex.ripe.net" >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local

One of the working theories was that the OP's problem was caused by an incorrect system date. In other words, the gpg key might have appeared to be coming from the future and was getting rejected.

What you posted will work, but in general it is considered rude to connect directly to a time server unless you have permission. There have been time servers taken off line, or access severly limited, because of the number of people attempting to connect to them. That is why the whole pool system was created. So while the armedslack instructions technically are correct, there is a better, more polite, way to achieve the same goal.
