slackpkg dumb problem

I have uncompressed the package by running installpkg. It was there fine. I was then suppose to uncomment a server in the mirrors file which I did. I read the directions only uninstalled one by removing #. I tried again and again nothing worked. This seems like a real obvious error but I dont see it. Please help.

What commands did you use? The usual sequence is

slackpkg update
then either
slackpkg (re)install <pkg>
or
slackpkg upgrade <pkg>
or
slackpkg upgrade-all

You must be root. Also you might want to experiment with different servers un-commented. For UK I use a Belgium server because it gets updated faster with new packages than the UK servers.
Also if you are using a -current server make sure you read the changelog for hints as to packages that have been split or added.

Make sure you didn't leave a space where the # symbol was. There musn't be any spaces before the start of the url.

Unhappy

Thanks all for posts so far. I thought the space idea was going to be it but it didnt work.

OK I enter 'slackpkg update' and I receive an error message:

You dont have any mirror selected in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors Please, exit that file and uncomment one mirror. Slackpkg only works with ONE mirror selected.

Thats it. I have only one mirror selected and no spaces. The program is having trouble finding and reading the mirror but how to correct?

Comment out that mirror and uncomment a different one. If you're in the U.S. I've found the tds mirror to be pretty fast and reliable.

Make sure you are not uncommenting the description line. Eg mine looks like:

#Belgium, 2x1Gbit
http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/slackw...kware-current/

If you comment out the first line too you may get that error.
