Slackbuilds from 12.0 for 12.1

If I upgrade from 12.0 to 12.1 will I have to recompile all the slackbuilds that I compiled from scripts at slackbuilds.org?

Thanks

I'm no developper, but I would strongly suggest to recompile all your software using Slackbuild for version 12.1 available on www.slackbuild.org.

First: some Slackbuilds had to be modified from 12.0 to 12.1
Second: I understand (maybe wrongly) that due to new version of gcc, you may run into problem with programs compiled using an earlier version.

On the last point, I may be wrong (someone will correct me), but if you just recompile with 12.1 Slackbuilds, you'll avoid issue.

Most of your packages made for 12.0 will probably work with 12.1 -- but some may not (and some may not work perfectly). It would be best to recompile your added software for 12.1, but if you REALLY don't want to, and everything works, you may be fine.

It depends, typically most programs will still work, but sometimes they won't. I also recompile most packages.

I would imagine that with critical programs or anything that has to do with your system would require a recompilation. Other than that, non-critical apps like media players and games and office applications are stuff I wouldn't worry about.

I appreciate your replies but there must be some gotcha to watch out for in deciding whether the package will be OK or not.

With 11 -> 12 there was an obvious problem that the directory structure was different but it is not clear to me that there should be any issues with 12 -> 12.1 (not that I know anything much about it)

The biggest problem you might run into is the new gcc, kernel, and some of the updated libraries such as FLAC.

On my system I went ahead and recompiled all my libraries. I updated any software that had newer versions (that seemed worth rebuilding), but the rest I only rebuilt if something was broken or if the slackBuild was significantly different.

You might notice that a lot of the slackBuilds from 12.1 are exactly the same as the ones from 12.0 (or were when they first were released). diff -ru and you can see the differences.
