SlackBuilds and Software Versions

I've been playing with Slackware for a few days now on an old Dell Latitude laptop (D610 to be exact). Everything is working great, except wireless which I'm in the process of solving...but that's not what my question is about (well maybe indirectly).

I've been pointed in the direction of wicd, and was browsing SlackBuilds to obtain a copy. I've noticed that there is only a wicd version in the 12.1 'repository' and since I'm running 12.2 will this cause any issue? Am I going to need to change anything...or is it perfectly OK to use one from the 12.1 section?

Thanks in advance.

There's a 12.2 package in extra.

Ah, well thanks But for future reference, if I come to a situation like that again is it OK to use an older version's slackbuild script?

If you can only find it for previous versions, I would suggest getting the source and the slackbuild from that version and build it on your current version.

Wicd version

I recommend 1.5.9 version. Get the package in http://packages.slackware.it/

or:
if you have slackpkg setup just run:
slackpkg install package wicd
reboot & wicd will normally setup everything for you on a stock system.

Usually it is OK to do this. Often you can even do a simple version update for the SlackBuild and install the newest version of your software.

Do keep in mind, however, that sometimes there are enough changes between Slackware versions that might cause the software not to build or run properly. Usually an updated kernel or library is the problem, and a patch might be necessary.
