Slackbuild Opera 9.5 for Slackware 12?

Hey all,

Will the slackbuilds.org slackbuild script for Opera 9.5 work with Slackware 12? It's only listed as 12.1 compatible.

Also, if any of the slackbuilds.org people are reading this, may I suggest that the version dropdown is made persistent, so it remembers your selection between searches. When you're doing a large amount of searches, it gets old pretty fast having to select 11.0 again and again. Or perhaps just let it sit at All as default. Just a suggestion. :)

This kind of post should really go into the slackBuilds users mailing list.

I don't use Opera, but from looking at the script it looks like it should work fine in Slackware 12.0. You do know that it just repackages the official Opera binary, right? You don't have to worry about any compile time dependencies.

It would probably work with 12.0, but maybe not 11.0. You could just try it and check out the package it creates. I don't see any showstopping, 12.1-specific things, but I didn't really look too carefully. 11.0 doesn't have gcc4, and I notice this line in the SlackBuild:
Code:

TOPDIR=$(tar tf $CWD/$PRGNAM-${VERSION}.gcc4-shared-qt3.i386.tar.bz2 |head -1)
So I think 12.0 is as far back as you can go -- but I'm not sure. They all have qt3, so it *should* work unless I'm missing something.

Try it out -- the worst that can happen is that is doesn't work and you'll have to uninstall the app.

There is a gcc 3 version of Opera. Just go to
Code:

ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/linux/950/final/en/i386/shared/
and choose the version you want. Change the slackbuild to reflect the change you are using, obviously.

Thanks all..

I will try the 12.1 slackbuild and see if it works with my 12.0 Slackware.
