Slack9 got ill after installing Mandrake 10.0

Hi everyone.
My old good Slack 9 on /dev/hda3 behaves badly after installing Mandrake10.0
Mandrake took over boot lilo.conf without giving the possibility to set things properly.
Now it looks like no modules are loaded. Even liloconfig doesn't work, neither eth0 nor X.
Stange directories have suddenly appeared here and there..... none instructed Mandrake to do that. I would like to return to my old Slack 9 configuration.

Down follows my lilo.conf on hda3 /etc.

# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section
append="hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi"
boot = /dev/hda
#compact # faster, but won't work on all systems.
prompt
timeout = 300
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x32k
vga = 787
# End LILO global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz-ide-2.4.20
root = /dev/hda3
label = Slack9
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /mnt/hd2_1/boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/hdb1
label = Slack10_2
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# DOS bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/hda1
label = Win98
table = /dev/hda
# DOS bootable partition config ends

Could someone please give me a hand in sorting this out?

Thanks a lot,
Pier

Hi

Have you tried booting from your old slack 9 cd? It should be possible to use the old CD to boot into your slack install and then rerun lilo from there. This is if you don't have a separate boot partition which mandrake has fiddled to much with.

Hi,
no I haven't but I am going to try this too tonight.
I actually manage to boot from Slack9. Yet the behavior is not as a Slack distro. Apart from being uncapable to sartX again, having a bad keyboard typeset (kbdconfig not working), unable to log on to the net and so on, when I shutdown the system a number of colored messages appear on the screen to aknowledge the shutting of the services and whose style reminds a red hat distro one (one of them being CUPS which I don't use on Slack 9, having opted for apsfilter). I is also impossible to ifconfig eth0 as modeprobe is unknown.... One last thing... /boot/vmlinux changed to /boot/vmlinuz.... That seems fishy too.
I swear I won't be installing a Mandrake distro again.

/dev/hda1 -> Win98 [working]
/dev/hda3 -> Slack9 [not working properly]
/dev/hdb1 -> Slack10.2 [working]
/dev/hdb6 -> Mandrake 10.0 [removed]

Thanks,
Pier
