Lightbulb Slack webserver minimum essentials

Hi! Now that I am getting more into blogging, I want to hear from fellow Slack users what are their minimum essentials needed to create a webserver suitable for personal blogging. Of course, suggestions(even though non-minimum essentials) are welcome too.

Back in college, I used to have a slack box as my firwall, gateway, router, webserver for our house. It had the following specs:

500Mhz
128MB PC133
8GB HD

I never tracked hits and I doubt there were many, but it worked fine for me & a few friends. I'm pretty sure we had php & mysql on it as well.

I see. Do I have to worry about what kernel version should I stick too?

For a webserver 2.4.x would technically be better, but 2.6.x is good also.
