Slack /RH dual boot initrd missing issue
Installed Slack 9 rc1 this morning on hdb hda contains RH 8.0
i would like to experiment with Slack till im familiar enough with it to make the switch... everything looks fine and dandy.. i went through the install process and all looks good.During the configuration or Slack i of course didnt go with the install of grub or lilo cause it's already on there .. BUT ! ; ) ( there had to be one.. ) When i got in hda in the /boot/grub/grub.conf and tried to make an entry for slackware.. i found out that in the hdb /boot ( for slack ) there's NO initrd entry at all. a quick ls results : config lost+found System.map-ide-2.4.20 vmlinuz-ide-2.4.20 config-ide-2.4.20 System.map vmlinuz So where do i go from there . ? do i need that initrd entry ( yes that's a n00b question ; ) in the grub.conf ? Help on this will be appreciated. RTFM didnt help .. and google looks quite clueless on this particular too.. Thanks in advance . Looking forward to booting this slack real soon Richard Hebert aka FuzzyTheBear ( freenode #lemmings ) |
Your grub on the other partition can't see the
/boot on /dev/hdb ... what you'll need to do is to install lilo in //dev/hdb1 and tell grub in RH to start hdb as if it were winDOHs :) ... no pointers to any kernels or initrd. Cheers, Tink |
