Slack package manager

hey, can anyone tell me if there is any package manager for slackware that can use either debian or gentoo mirrors for downloading the files? reason I am asking this is because I have access to this ftp server: ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz at 6+mbit compared to the rest of the internet at 128kbit

Thanks

I'm not trying to flame or anything like that, but if that's the important factor to you, then why choose Slackware?

If that were my situation, I would consider it a prime opportunity to use Debian or Gentoo. Take advantage of it. 6Mb would be pretty sweet.

Just curious, that's all...

Not that I know of. Give those distros a try, though - Debian can be nice, if you can get it configured properly. I know quite a few people who swear by Gentoo, although I haven't gotten a chance to try it out, though. I'm not too picky - I love Slackware because it doesn't load me full of crap, and it has a lot of similarity with FreeBSD (compared to other Linux distros).

I just realized - there is a program that can convert certain packages to slack .tgz, however in the instance I tried it, it ended up borking my install. I have heard of quite a few people having luck with it, though... Can't remember what it was called. If I remember I'll be sure to post here - although I'm sure someone else will find it.

alien can covert debian packages, rpm2tgz can do the obvious
but as stated above results can be poor at times.

well I have been using Debian sid for the last few months, and that was ok... but I prefer Slackware, Debian seemed to have a lot of fluff that I didnt want. And Gentoo, for some reason, I can't to install properly. Have probably tried close to 20 times over the last year on 2 different computers and no luck. Problems such as emerge dissapears after install :S - Mite try again. With new images mabye.
