Slack on my laptop questions
 

Hi,

I have been using Slack on my desktop since January and I know my way around the basics of setting it all up and stuff. You guys area great resource.

Anyways I got a laptop and I wanted linux on it right away. Its a Sony Vaio VGN-TX27GP. I have looked around and it is most similar to the T1X* models you guys have in the US or where-ever. I used several walkthroughs to get stuff working. I've been through Ubuntu, and Debian on it, thinking they would be an easy way to get stuff done, but neither satisfied me, so I am back trying Slackware on it :)

The main problem I have is my network won't work. I have both a built in wireless and wired ethernet. lspci gives their correct names:

Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562EM/EX/GX - PRO/100 VM (LOM) Ethernet Controller Mobile (rev 03)
Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG (rev 05)

I setup my static IP and even tried dynamic DHCP one, but ifconfig returns no eth0, only lo. /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf has all the right info in it.

I would prefer to use wireless, but just getting the internet working would be swell. Right now I am downloading packages I need in windows and then booting to linux to install them. It sucks!

So does anyone have any idea how to get this working?

You will need to download the driver(depending on kernel [2.6 it is included in the more current kernel tree]) also you will need the appropriate firmware.

They have very good instructions on getting the driver working as well.
A key note : Driver must have the correct firmware otherwise you will get errors. (very important if using the built in 2.6 kernel drivers. they tend to run a bit behind).

Ah thank you. I found out I needed to load e100 to get the wired one working. Now I can at least get the system configured etc before trying for wireless.

Now I need to figure out how to get my console resolution to run at 1366x768.

You set framebuffer resolution with the bootloader, lilo with Slackware.
Take a look at /etc/lilo.conf
Don't forget to run "lilo" after you saved your lilo.conf settings.
I don't know if this weird resolution is supported. Maybe you'll have to switch to another bootloader, like grub.
