slack fonts problem in printing (bad kerning)

the first problem I need to face in vector/slackware is the fonts. My sister keep telling me that she has never seen so ugly printout. I tried to install freetype131 and 217 and the space between letters is not consistent.

I use bitstream sans in both slackware91 and freebsd. Does anyone know how to set it as good as freebsd's?

Ummm ... what printer, which printing subsystem,
which settings for the printer? :)

Cheers,
Tink

HP720 with pnm2ppa but the problem is not printer.

I have tried several version of freetype (included the patched freetyped 2.15) and have the same result. Change to open office and the problem is solved.

In freebsd I use abiword 2.01 and my sister use abiword 2.00. It may because of that.

thanks anyway

FWIW, font handing is KDE is miles beyond that offered by gnome. Such was the case the last time I checked, anyway. Using the KDE font manager you, can suck the fonts right off a windows partition and use them in linux, fwiw.

Are there gimp-print drivers for your printer? If so, I've found that cups+gimp print offers the best print quality by far. Cups has an html based config tool that I use for most all printer config tasks wich great results.

Cups is in the /extra/ directory on the slackware FTP site and is quite easy to compile youself as well.

Check out this website, if you have not allready, for absolutely everything you'll ever need to know about printing under linux:
