Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been doing pretty much the same thing as you since... well I dunno, a little before knoppix 3.3 came out. I started because my HD went bad and I Linux (which I had downloaded like.. 2 days earlier, knoppix 3.2) was all that would run on it, albeit crappily.

Recently I've been bugging the hell out of the slackware forum, because I've gotten attached to this distro over the past few days. I dunno why, either... it's a hell of a lot harder to 'make' it work than the other distros, but it just FEELS faster and leaner to me.

It does give out some really strange vibes, huh? It's ALIVE!! Mu, Hah, Hah....... I've never understood it... I don't know what Patrick Volkerding does to this OS but it's certainly a strange phenomenon the way it reacts and behaves and as everyone always senses, The "feel" that it gives off..... It IS just a piece of software, right? I'm not so sure sometimes...... :D Jesus I'm a dork... I used to be pretty cool.... I Don't know what happened to me.... Everyone knows what I'm talking about. I don't have to explain myself..... :jawa:

LMAO, yep the vibes cannot be ignored either!! My Jukebox runs Slack 9.0
it's been a year since I installed it and still going rock solid, a few package upgrades a new kernel or two and it just keeps on keeping on............

The first linux distro I installed was Slackware 3.0 and soon after Red Hat 3.0.3 or maybe the other way around... anyway... I ended up with Slack, went to red hat 5, have tried suse, mandrake (which I thought was very user-friendly).. gentoo (but compiling everything takes ages haha)... Debian, but always returned to Slack for some reason. I guess it's the feeling that YOU are under control of your system and not the system itself.

I agree... slack is something else... I can't put my finger on it. Just so, different.

Maybe it is the church's infulence. :D

Me too! I recently got a new machine and had problems getting Slackware running. I decided to try several other distros, and most of the "user-friendly" distros didn't do any better. However I did get Knoppix 3.3 working, so I knew it was possible to run Linux on my box. However, Knoppix/Debian seemed overly complicated and a little fragile (compared to Slack), and when I finally figured out how to get my ethernet & zip drive working under Slack, I switched back.
