Even I had this issue. Try running
Code:

swaret --dep
and see if it finds any missing packages. I think it missed something like 'startup-notification' for me.

Or allternatively, use dropline-gnome, it's a version written with slack in mind. Not to mention it rocking
in the highest order !!!!!!! Google for it, run the installer, and hey presto.....

Evilone: i tried installing dropline gnome before and i had soo much trouble with it. It just doenst like me for some reason. First my computer wouldnt boot up after it was done installing. Then before i upgraded to current it said it was going to check the md5 for missing p[ackages or whatever then it came up with like error curputed and missing and there was like 15 packages the looked mostly like libs. Ill try it again. But if you mind helping me getting it working?

the only thing i can suggest now is to make a list of all the required gnome packages(from the gnome website) and check if everythins is installed or not. I don't now how good an idea is this but I'm pretty sure that you are missing some package which swaret is not able to catch

matt3333 06-03-2004 11:24 PM

Ok....ill trythat but first i decided to remove gnome and reinstall it....when i did Swaret --remove gnome I got all of the gnome 2.4 packages and gnome 2.2 packs im thinking both gnome pack are on here and it doesnt know what its doing or there confilting. In Some way so im reinstalling gnome 2.6 and we will see how it goes from here thanx for your help if anyone knows anything else to suggest i try it would be very appreticated Thanx again

swaret

It looks like people are addicted to swaret. For gnome, it seems like the easiest way would just be to just remove all the old gnome packages and then install the new ones, *.tgz. I don't really feel any urge to try swaret right now, since it seems kind of untrustworthy. With the basic tools I know exactly what I'm doing.

I just started using Slackware though... installed right after he switched to X.org, so that issue was avoided at least. It was so easy... just downloaded -current onto my windows drive and installed from there with the floppy boot disk. Really happy with Slackware so far.
