Unhappy Slack + Compaq Evo N1015v

I tried to set up Slackware 9.1 on my laptop (compaq Evo N1015v), but the setup finds no Disk (controller?!).

Disk drive: Toshiba MK2018GAP
Controller: ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

I've found some topics online about setting linux on laptop, but they all start with "Compile a new kernel". How can i compile, if i can't set up the system?

Maybe anybody has solved or has a solution for this problem?

I had a similar problem with my laptop and I had to add boot parameters ide0=ata66 ide1=ata66. I would find something on the internet though before trying that.
