Slack & vmware kernel panic

I'm trying to install slack9 via vmware on this laptop. I've installed it successfully with partitioning this hard drive and installing it natively but.. the X server was too dark for me to really see and use. But anyways I keep getting a kernel panic when it tries to load up when I boot it off the cd. I'm not sure why it does it but slack4 had the same kernel panic then i somehow managed to get slack4 installed. Also redhat 6.0 also does the same kernel panic too. So i'm not sure what hte problem is the cpu is a Athlon 4 . any ideas fellas?

Here is a link to a screenshot of the error message...

I had the same problem, I just ended up reformatting and having it boot from a floppy instead, I never did figure it out but it boots great with my laptop off a floppy.
