Slack 9 X vid problem

Just getting started on Slack 9 and built my second box. The first one went relatively fine. The first one was a Dell Precision 210 workstation. Anyway, on that build the system came up fine, and all I had to do was edit the inittab file for the X enviroment to come up on the next boot automatically. However on my new box, I cannot get X to come up at all. I keep getting the standard monitor error "Cannot diplay this videomode" (this is a monitor message, not linux). When I look through the X log, it seems as if everything is coming up fine, any suggestions, I know I probably needto edit the XF config file but need some direction. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

just tried doing the xf86config thing and looked like it would help., but NOTHING. Still the same issue..... no X enviromnet, the screen just goes blank and displays the monitor warning "cannot display the video mode" The monitor I am using is a Dell FP1701 and there are no /errors warnings is the X log files. Is there some sort of default setting that will work (even if video quality is not the best)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, got it running atleast at a lower resolution, using xf86conifg..... Now my question is? Is there any easy way to adjust the resolution to be higher, or do I have to manually edit the cfg file? Keep in mind that I am not using Gnome or KDE, so I do not have access to thier X config tools
