My parents just got a new computer, they said i could do whatever i want with the old one. So i decided to upgrade to slack9. They see Windows xp, as priority, so it gets the connection to dsl. to configure slack to connect on DSL (i have ameritech, i.e. SBC) is really easy:

1) make sure your ethernet card is working

2) get the following info: acct name (like blahmaster@ameritech.net), password and DNS IPs (i had to call to get these)

3) run the roaring penguin PPPOE client (it comes w/ slack 9) setup using commands

/sbin/adsl-setup

4) i recommend you get a firewall up b4 you go online (its dangerous out there!)

5) connect using

/sbin/adsl-start

6) close connection w/

/sbin/adsl-stop

hope that helps
