Slack 9.1 -- worth the upgrade?

Hey all... I have been too busy with school and stuff recently to do much on my Slack box. But, I am back in the game now! (Go winter break!)

Anyway, what I was wondering is if you guys think that upgrading from Slack 9 to 9.1 is worth it. In addition, is there any way to upgrade without re-installing? I really rather not lose my mp3s etc. -- but I would like the new alsa and other packages.

Thanks

Just grab whatever packages you want to upgrade to from either one of the many ftp mirror sites or www.linuxpackages.net. Personally if your not intending to upgrade alot, I would opt to just download and install what you want to upgrade.

I would just run swaret to update all the packages to 9.1 (or current if you really want to be up to date).

Here, here for swaret. It works great!

like alot of people I just keep the kernel, and any apps that I use up to date. Otherwise I just keep an eye out for any big security flaws and update accordingly. I don't really see any reason to completely wipe an install to update a kernel and some apps that you use on a regular basis. If your from a windows background its common the think that a drive wipe is need to stay current. Not so with linux. Just go at your own pace and ignore everyone that laughs at your setup, its just because its not like theirs.

Computers should be fun, not aesthetically pleasing to others.

..sorry, had a bad day in irc :P
