Slack 9.1 Sound Issues

I'm using the default installation for sound (which is ALSA, I think). I used alsamixer to unmute the sound and turned up the volume all the way. My problem: Still can't get any sound. I have a Soundblaster Audigy for my sound card. Here's what lsmod says concerning all my sound related modules:

snd-emu10k1 60212 1
snd-pcm 55904 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-emu10k1]
snd-timer 13252 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-hwdep 4672 0 [snd-emu10k1]
snd-util-mem 1136 0 [snd-emu10k1]
snd-page-alloc 6004 0 [snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm]
snd-rawmidi 12512 0 [snd-emu10k1]
snd-seq-device 3920 0 [snd-emu10k1 snd-rawmidi]
snd-ac97-codec 37240 0 [snd-emu10k1]
snd 27460 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-hwdep snd-util-mem snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec]
soundcore 3332 8 [snd]

I am very new to linux and even newer to slackware. I got my sound working with this command
#alsaconf
it ran a little configuration program. I chose my sound card and it worked.

I don't think alsa was the problem. I just switched over to KDE and the sound works fine. I think it has something to do with GNOME (the sound server or something).
