Slack 9.1: Monitor does not turn off.

greetings everyone

I recently installed Slackware 9.1 and first things that caused me real problems is that my system did not power down completely and monitor does not turn off after X number of seconds.
Searched around and found that doing this will solve the problem.
modprobe apm
Well now the shutdown problem is gone but my monitor still does not turn off after 2 minutes, which i have setted it to in "Display Power Management".
i tried
xset dpms 2
but that doesn't solve the thing either.
any ideas are highly appreciated.

thanx for reading.

make sure you have the xscreenserver set the way you want it and add this line to the monitor section of your XF86Config file:
Option "DPMS"
then restart x and it should work.
