Hello, everyone
I run Slack 9.1 with an ADSL web connection (Sprint FastConnect) and have a problem that was also present in Slack 9.0.
For some reason, when I click on "any" URL there is usually a delay of 5 to 10 seconds before the URL begins to be resolved. I'm not talking about the usual delay all machines produce while resolving any URL, but a delay that happens even before that. What's strange is that when I first install the OS, this doesn't always happen and webpages are pulled up almost instantly. After a few reboots, it's starts happening and then once it does, the problem continues.
I'm using the same networking settings that I use for all the other Linux distros that I've tried, and of course those distros didn't give me any trouble at all - it's just with Slackware that this happens. I've reinstalled Slack and reconfigured my network using the usual (and different) settings numerous times looking for a fix, but nothing seems to work.
When I run ifconfig, I do get a report saying that some packets were dropped and errors occured with eth0. Also worth noting, Slack actually managed to delete the BIOS settings in my DSL modem at one point, causing the machine to fail at resolving any web addresses at all.
I've vigorously searched the web and this website for answers and can't find anything that looks remotely close to what I'm experiencing, but if any of you should have any ideas, or you should run into a similar situation elsewhere, I'd sure appreciate a reply.
This irritating problem is the only thing preventing me from making Slackware my default Linux disto. The concept of sitting through an extra 5 to 10 seconds delay on every URL I click is not acceptable.
Thanks in advance for any help...
