Question Slack 9.0 --help

Hi, I've one question, hopefully someone can help me. I have a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop (nothing but trouble damn thing)

I have a prob with the module for USB2.0, ehci. It stalls the boot up. While searching the net for help I came on a webpage which describes a fix.

It says to bypass the problem to boot with the Slack 9 cdrom and tar the folder with the module, in this case /lib/modules/2.4.20/kernel/drivers/usb/hcd.

I used the Slack 9 cdrom 1. I tried this but when I rebooted the system the module was not hidden and so stalled the boot again. I tried to email the author of the webpage however for some reason unknown to me the email address will not work.

The url is:

http://www.akiaki.org/linux/presario.2500.HOWTO.html

any help would be well appreciated.

The CD-ROM should boot you up with minimal kernel, so I wonder if the computer is just going straight to your hard disk? Check your bios settings to see that the computer is checking for the cd before the hard disk.

I have the bios set up properly to boot from the cd. I am going to try and repartition the hard disk to that as laid out on the webpage linked in my first post and try the method again. Hopefully that will work.

Thanks for replying.
