Slack 13, failure to automount usb thumbdrive and cdroms

On a new 13 install I am having a problem with automounting usb thumbdrives or cdroms. I get

Failed to mount thumb

Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.57" (uid=1002 pid=3393 comm="exo-mount --hal-udi /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/v") interface="org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member="Mount" error name="(unset)" requested_reply=0 destination="org.freedesktop.Hal" (uid=0 pid=2855 comm="/usr/sbin/hald --daemon=yes ")).

Now, I have added the user to groups
audio
video
cdrom
plugdev
power
scanner

But, it is still getting the error. I can mount it by command line
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/thumb
after creating /mnt/thumb of course

I have it working perfectly on another Slack 13 install.

I know it's not the answer you are waiting for but anyhow...

I don't use HAL.

You could either use pmount, available @ http://slackbuilds.org, or add rules for that in /etc/udev/rules.d.

When did you add the user to those groups? Before or after seeing the error for the first time? Either way, a reboot should fix everything up quite nicely, or you can logout completely, log in as root, and do this:
Code:
/etc/rc.d/rc.wicd stop # if using wicd
/etc/rc.d/rc.hald stop
/etc/rc.d/rc.messagebus restart
/etc/rc.d/rc.hald start
/etc/rc.d/rc.wicd start # if using wicd
Then logout as root, log in as your normal user account, and all should be well.

Yep, a reboot this morning cured the problem.

Thanks to all that replied.
