slack 12.2 boot reverts to dhcp

First: this problem could be with installing Slackware on a Mac using Parallels--virtual machine software. I don't think it is because five other installs of earlier slack distros work just fine.

Slackware 12.2 is installed and working with dynamic IP address. I tried changing to a static address using netconfig script--this has worked for 14 years and I figured it'd work again. I also manually add nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf. Re-boot and the machine comes back with dynamic address and /etc/resolv.conf has been changed back to the nameservers that my router--and dhcp server--gave it.

Checked /etc/rc.d/inet1.conf and all the changes made by netconfig script are correct for static IP.

Just for grins I take the machine down to single user mode with "init S" and back up with "init 3". The static IP is now working fine; so the rc scripts are probably working fine. Once again reboot and the thing reverts back to using dhcp, the resolv.conf file is changed, and rc.inet1.conf file is ignored.

What the . . .?

Any ideas? I really prefer to use static IP on my LAN.

Later, Bob

hmm...would you be able to compare the current version of /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 with the previous one ? [Assuming you have not enabled DHCP in rc.inet1.conf]

Please post your /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf file and the output of "ifconfig -a". Without any information, there is only guessing.

Eric
