Ok, I must be a dummy because I can't find this anywhere, not on my DVD or in -current. Can someone point out where this is? Thanks!

It is not in the slackware-current tree, and not in the slackware-11.0 tree on any mirror, not on any inofficial DVD or CDROM ISO image.

Where is it then?

It is only contained on the official Slackware 11.0 DVD and on CD 5 of the CD-set. And downloadable from http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackboot/

I used Transmission torrent client, which I have used in the past with no probs. However, I did have a glitch during the d/l. At about 23% complete, I lost my ineternet connection. I didn't notice until I woke up, got my net connection back up, and restarted the download with Transmission. After a while, I started getting this message on the status line of Transmission, where it normally shows number of seeds, hosts, etc:

Code:
Error: You client's "key" parameter and the key we have for you in our database do not match.
I guess I should have just dumped what had gotten when I got that message, but had already spent 12 hours d/l'ing it. Damn, that sux! I have a lot of machines waiting for this release! Oh, well.. Using Azureus now, and it's saying about 3 days to finish. As they say, back to the drawing board, or rather, hurry up and wait some more!

Yeah, the "key" error was discussed on IRC, and I think it is caused by the fact that the bittorrent tracker has a round-robin DNS record, and when you get attached to a new tracker your key is not known to the new server. It does not seem to cause problems for the download afaik.

If you already have a local Slackware current/11.0 mirror, then you could try Alphageeks's jigdo templates and scripts, fondly called "sligdo":
http://alphageek.dyndns.org/linux/sligdo/

With the sligdo files you can download there (mirrored at http://www.slackware.com/~alphageek/sligdo/) together with a fully synchronized local mirror, sligdo creates byte-for-byte identical files compared to the official ISO files - the official md5 and gpg checksums check out fine. Generating the 7 ISOS takes mere minutes. The sligdo download is 43 MB.

Read the instructions before downloading though

Thank you very much Eric! You just saved me a lot of time setting it up myself! I've been installing slack using a loop mounted iso on a tftp server, using a nic with pxe(pixie) for a couple of years now, and love how easy it makes it to deploy slack on many servers without the need for any boot media, and used to have to spend hours setting it all up myself, but now, I can just use your setup, and I'm good to go! I've got two servers that have no removable media, so only way to get slack on is via network.

Thanks for your hard work Eric!

Thanks, Eric. Fantastic work on those and the wireless scripts. I am glad to see your work on wpa_supplicant as started, as well. I still have to wrap my head around your wireless scripts and enabling wpa. I have usually done a simple little script myself to start wpa and bring up the wifi card, but if I can do it natively that would be cool, too.

Downloaded and installed using test26.s, on an old P3-800/256M/80G NetVista; complains that capset module was not loaded, named won't come up as a result, network was not detected, perhaps due to the capset. It was too late at night and I WANTED to experience Slackware 11 so reinstalled into 2.4.33; everything looked good. Will investigate the capset problem with another install later...

Did you forget to install the kernel-modules package for that 2.6.18 "test" kernel after you booted into your new Slackware? The test26 and huge26 kernels need their modules installed manually (it even states as much in the installer boot screens).

Tux,
Be interested in how you go with MythTV...... I tried it with 10.0 seem to compile fine, but trying to run it had trouble getting the frontend to talk too mysql.

Just a quick "Thank you" to PV and his merry band for the excellent, FAST and shapely Slackware 11.

I timed my install at 16 minutes, with a further 30 minutes to remove packages, add packages, configure ALSA and NVidia, initrd 2.6.17.13 and reapply backed up config files.

Code:
bash-3.1$ cat /etc/slackware-version
Slackware 11.0.0
The 30 minutes was the fun part.

Indeed! The first 30 minutes after the install is always the fun part when you know your way around slack

Code:
mshade@gobot:~$ cat /etc/slackware-version
Slackware 11.0.0
mshade@gobot:~$ uname -a
Linux gobot 2.6.18 #1 SMP Tue Oct 3 06:42:56 EDT 2006 i686 athlon-4 i386 GNU/Linux
mshade@gobot:~$ uptime
 21:35:36 up 1 day, 3:03, 2 users, load average: 0.21, 0.17, 0.30
Custom kernel, happliy configured Slack in no time flat. Makes me happy.

After getting my cable back up, and restarting the torrent, I am now occationally getting this error where it usually says how many seeds there are, and how many hosts I am connected to:

Error: You client's "key" parameter and the key we have for you in our database do not match.
I use the same bittorrent client, and get that error just about all the time. I just ignore it, and I downloaded and am now seeding the three Slackware 11 install ISOs with no problems. That's one of the things I don't like about that bittorrent client. (That, and its limiting your upload speed to 20 kbps by default.)

I am writing a detailed how-to pretty soon. I am already running mythtv with slackware -current branch from about 5 weeks ago (Alien Bob's -current iso's...Thanks!! Eric ) but I just want to upgrade to 11 since now it's official. Will post the link to the how-to here in this thread for all to refer to.

Tux,

Did you do an md5sum check and gpg verify on the iso before you used, burned, and seeded the torrents? If so, what were your results??

I started from scratch, and have seen it scream today! I d/l'd disk-1 in 15 minutes, and have been rocking on the dvd-iso all day, with an average of over 700 seeds and 1200 peers, and have been sucking the dvd-iso at an average of 600kb using a different box with azureus!

So, I got the new 11 of Slackware...just installed it and everything seems perfect on my machine, it's running even faster than 10.2...I think it's the fastest Linux distro running with KDE..absolutely awesome, it really is the best distro out there..Pat should take a nap for a couple of months
Just one tinny problem...In the past I used "subfs" to automatically mount my cdrom and dvd-rom...but I cannot install it in slack 11...I tried all kernels...I think I'm going to compile a fresh and clean 2.6.18 today and see after that...
Anyway..congratulations to Pat and his crew for making this happen...I've waited for so long for this...Take care
