Slack 10 CD can't detect Samsung SC-140 on /dev/hdc?

I boot into the CD just fine, but when I try to autodetect the installation source it says the drive can't be found, and when I try to manually point it to /dev/hdc it can't mount it. Is there a compatibility issue with the samsung SC-140, or am I missing something?
