I have a SB Live 5.1 (emu10k1 i believe) and a TV Tuner (BTTV i think).
Anyway, the default slack 10 2.4 kernel detects both of these devices and loads a load of modules up for them. I cannot play sound from my computer, because it's like the BTTV is being read as my primary sound device.
kmix crashes when i open it, but another mixer installed shows a tab for each card, with volume controls, but of course this is just a frontend for volume control and it doesn't let me choose which to use.
It seems like i could tell say XMMS to use /dev/dsp for output, but it gives an error.
Sorry I can't tell you what specific mixer or the specific error message, but I don't have access to my linux box right now, plus I don't think it should matter all that much.
Does anyone know how to get my sound working without disabling support for the BTTV in the kernel?
also, all this is being done as root, so it isn't just the infamous permission problem with sound and slack
I have sb live 5.1 and bttv tuner too, what I did is plug the audio output of the tv card into the input (line) of the sb live card with a little mini jack cable. So now with alsa mixer I can set bass and treeble (ever play with surround but I don't use that) with the sound of the tv.
The problem is that the module for BT848 audio was being loaded automatically (which you you don't need with the loop cable!). That was the whole problem. Simple kernel recompile fixed it.
Hi,
When launching gnome-volume-control, I have got 2 tabs:
- sigmatel xxx OSS
- SB Live ! ALSA
It makes sense, as /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa loads OSS compatibility.
My problem is:
In the ALSA tab, I've got many duplicated entries: Tone (Twice), AC97 (Twice) ... Some coaxial entries that I don't care !
Should be acceptable, as I can ear sound :-) but in fact, I can't get my microphone working, and it's such a f****g mess in the entries (More than 30 !) !!!
Each sound that I record is just scrashing...
I would like to remove some entries !
Do you have a solution ?
Why can't I record sond, as microphone entry is up ?
I know it is not an hardware problem, as it is working with Mdk10 (I installed it on a separate partition in order to test).
I try to record with gnome-sound-recorder.
jbstew32,
can you post abit on how to compile the bttv module from the kernel to eliminate the sound problem that you had? I have a SBlive and a tv tuner card with the exact same problem. Thanks.
