Hold on, I don't use the wireless capability on my router, I just use Ethernet. Can the network still be cracked? I don't know if the wireless is enabled.

EDIT: Also, what changes should I make to my rc.inet1.conf file, so that changes will remain when I reboot? And how do I get my connection to work? It doesn't work now w/ ifconfig and route.

Hi,

Yes, the wireless can be cracked if it is enabled. You should either disable the broadcast or setup your tables.

As for the changes in /etc/rc.d/rc.init1.conf, it is vary self explainatory. If you are just using the the eth0 dev then change the relative section. Once you make these changes you must restart the network. I would suggest a reboot to make certain everything is functional. Since you were able to use static it seems you are on your way.

As I stated in a previous post, you can setup dhcp but as to why.

You now say the ifconfig eth0 and route doesn't work. What are the error messages? Are you maintaining a system log for all changes or entries to this system? It will help you to track the changes and a means to backout of something. Memory isn't always reliable when trouble shooting!

Updates on the situation:

My /etc/rc.d/inet1.conf section for eth0 now looks like this:

Code:
#Config information for eth0:
#IPADDR[0]="192.168.1.110" #edited - removed for progress
NETMASK[0]=""
USE_DHCP[0]="yes"
DHCP_HOSTNAME[0]="" #edited
DHCP_KEEPGW[0]="yes" #edited
What happens now is that when I restart inet1, it gives me:

Code:
dhcpcd: MAC address = 00:0d:56:4f:d6:cb
dhcpcd: your IP address = 192.168.1.101
Now, instead of telling me the website can't be found right away, Firefox and Konqueror both try for about a minute before telling me. Obviously something is working. I tried pinging google (64.233.167.104) , and that gives me a bunch of

Code:
from 192.168.1.101 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
. I think I might have to change the default gateway address.

Update from 2 minutes later: w00t! Windows told me that the default gateway address was 192.168.1.1. Changed it to that and now it works! Now to reboot and cross my fingers...

EDIT: Still works from Slack. I'll post again if any problems show up.
