Question slack 10.0 and mylex 960 RAID

trying to install slack 10.0 onto a mylex DAC 960 RAID device but it immediately fails because it sees the device as READ ONLY and can't partition due to no permission to write, sans the failure. Has anyone else seen this? The iso disk installed beautifully on the IDE system so it's not the ISO.

I've reinitialized the device, set various level 5 configs and even JBOD. it just doesn't seem to want to recognize the device. FreeBSD installed so I know the controller works. Is this a 10.0 bug?

any help is most welcome

thanks

realized the cfdisk needed to be fed the correct drive as it assumes the primary master, which happens to be the IDE CD ROM in this case. Fixed that with a call to cfdisk /dev/rd/c0d0 and was able to load and install.

what it doesn't do is find the boot loader, it will boot fine from the floppy but every attempt to put LILO in the MBR or Super Block fails. anyone have any clue to that

slackware install

Thanks all

heh, solved it myself. Actualy KDE's LILO tool tipped me off. Seems that the partion wasn't written to boot. Apparently whatever LILO install error that directed to boot off the floopy was the boot command never got written. Unless of course, linux wantsd you to WRITE changes before leaving CFDISK (FreeBSD gives a safety net of not writing unless you want, or else writes to disk as part of the install).

I went to CFDISK, made the disk bootable and WRITE it, then rebooted, then the familiar red box showed up with LINY written in it
