I think the new web client is only in alpha stage, and it will probably be just as much a pain for Slackware as the present versions. They will continue to support "older" versions and I care about having something that works now.
I installed your package skype-4.3.0.37-x86_64-1sl.txz on my Slackware 14.1 64 bit t61p laptop. It seems to work fine except I cannot get the microphone to work. I was using alsamixer, but then I realized it is probably pulse I need to adjust, but how? Maybe I just need a plugin microphone or one of those headsets. Any comments?
If you're running this on 14.1, I believe you need apulse. I know previously skype required pulseaudio and 14.1 doesn't include it (I don't see why they'd add alsa support back with this newer version, so I'd assume it is the same requirement). apulse is able to emulate pulseaudio without requiring a full pulseaudio install.
