Simplified Chinese in Qt apps under en_US.UTF-8?

It seems like Qt somehow cannot display Simplified Chinese when LANG is set to en_US.UTF-8 after the upgrade to qt 3.3.8 in the stable branch. The only way to have Qt display Simplified Chinese is to set LANG to zh_*.UTF-8. Traditional Chinese displays just fine with en_US.UTF-8, however. Is anyone else having this same problem?

When you say display, do you mean menu items or anything on the screen?

Just now I did export LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and started a qt based program Scribus, I could input simplified Chinese, the menu became English though, but I could bring back chinese menu by selecting Chinese language option from the Scribus preference windows.

Perhaps you need to declare different LC_MESSAGES viable? Please try: export LC_MESSAGES=zh_CN.UTF-8
