Siemens Dual Processor with Slack 9.1

I have a Siemens Celsius 600. Dual Processor Xeon with one 9 gig SCSI drive. It also has 512 ram. I am having trouble installing slack 9.1 on the machine. When I boot up with the disk in the cdrom, it brings me through the menu and everything works fine. Yet when I get the section where I need to partition my disk, I run into problems. I type in cfdisk, I get “cannot open disk drive press any key to exit cfdisk". When I type in fdisk I get "Unable to open /dev/sda" What’s the deal people. How come I can't do it? Brace yourself for this, I used a dos boot disk to try to fdisk the drive and it worked just fine. So it isn’t the drive that is bad because its fdiskable. Am I using the wrong parameters with fdisk or what? Help me please; I really want to get this to work!!! I am showing up a Novell guy at work. Please!!!

Did you select a SCSI - kernel from the
initial menu of the slack-boot?

Ummm ... no offense meant, but did you
actually read any of the documentation
that comes with slack? What exactly makes
you think that scsi.s, scsi2.s and scsi3.s relates
to different SCSI-standards and isn't just
an enumeration because all SCSI-modules
compiled into the kernel would make the
kernel too big for the floppy?

/me sends fishbulb off to his study:"Read the bootdisks/README.TXT!"

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: If you had given the actual brand & name
of your controller I might have pointed you to
te right kernel ...
