shutting down my system

I'm running slack 9, and when i choose to shut down my system, it unmounts everything, goes through all the shutdown sequences, but when it's finished it just says 'Power Off' on the bottom of my screen. In order to power off, i have to hold in the power button for 5 seconds. How can i get it to automatically power off my system like XP and redhat did??

I hope this helps you out:
uncomment the apm line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules, and place the command apm=power-off in /etc/lilo.conf.

Imyrryr is right about uncommenting the line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules. Not sure about the other thing for lilo.
Make sure that the /etc/rc.d/rc.M services script has the reference to APM uncommented also:

# Start the APM daemon if APM is enabled in the kernel:
if [ -x /usr/sbin/apmd ]; then
if cat /proc/apm 1> /dev/null 2> /dev/null ; then
echo "Starting APM daemon: /usr/sbin/apmd"
/usr/sbin/apmd
