Should the "Enabling 3D acceleration on X11" topic be updated?
Just noticed this but this document in some ways is a bit out of date due to the new driver architecture provided by Gallium3D. I, in my own opinion, think we should at least attempt to redraft a new guide for this as well as some much needed up-to-date FAQs for this and other aspects to stay up to date with how Slackware and Linux are progressing with hardware drivers and such.
Anyone agree or disagree? |
I feel this kind of information would better fit in a wiki, like e.g. SlackWiki's tutorials.
And it could be split in several how-to, as the problems and solutions differ a lot upon the graphics card provider. A sticky post could recall instead the main sources of information often referred to when helping to solve issues related to Slackware. |
Yes, that thread needs to go (iow, it needs to be unstickied). It's 45 pages long, a giant mess of information with no organization, and the very first post has more factual errors than facts. I pointed this out in post #670 of that thread over 2.5 years ago:

We could start work on a draft what could be rolled into the Wiki.
Edit: I started a rough draft of what could be used for a Wiki for Slackware and X11 configurations in my Blog here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...the-dri-34847/ Feel free to use it and make changes at your discretion. |
