Should it be updated. KDE 3.1.4 -> 3.2.2 ?
Hello.
I've done a fresh install of Slackware 9.1. I've updated the kernel and a few other apps that I use regularly however I haven't updated to KDE 3.2.2. I'm using the default KDE version that Slack provides on the CDs (3.1.4).
I've been using it for a few hours now and it seems very stable. I'm just curious, is there a major security bug or some other bug in 3.1.4 that is best fixed by upgrading? I'm working on the assumption of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.". Which could be a bad motto to live by in this instance.

3.2.x is considerably faster than 3.1.x, and apart from that has other improvements... I think most people would enjoy the upgrade.

I would have thought so too, but the reason I rebuilt my machine was because I thought I had a bad compile, bad ram, bad disk, etc... all of the hardware checked out and I could find a problem in the kernel compile. The only difference between the new system build and the last one is KDE. On the old build I was running 3.2.1.

I've found KDE-3.2.2 to be much more stable than 3.2.1..................I used to have daily crashes with Konq when used as a file manager in 3.2.1, but so far Konq hasn't crashed on me yet, and I've been using it for almost a week now.......I usually have several instances of Konq running on different desktops, both as a file manager and as a browser, at the same time........
And I build and make my own pkgs for any KDE-3.2.x, cause I've noticed some "bugs" using the official Slackware KDE-3.2.x pkgs on my rig.........

Well, easiest would be:
1) Download KDE packages into 1 directory, you can find them at: http://www.linuxpackages.net or do some searching at www.kde.org.
2) cd into the download directory and type: `upgradepkg *.tgz`
This will work but I think thegeekster's suggestion of compiling from source is better.
BTW geekster, how long does compiling from source take with KDE?

Hehehe............quite a while
I have an AMD Athlon 900 cpu with 256 MB RAM, and it took well over 30 hours for _all_ the KDE pkgs, which includes arts and quanta.........
