Several Apps Crash Back to Login-Manager
Hello all,
I have Slackware Current (KDE 3.3.1, Kernel=2.6.9) installed on a HP Compaq nc6000 laptop and have become very pleased with it. There are however a few nagging issues that I wish to resolve. The first of these issues is OpenOffice.org
I love KDE and have been in love with it since 2.x (which ever version was compiled for Red Hat 7.1) but in my opinion the office suite sucks, so I wish to use OpenOffice.org but after downloading the latest stable tarball and extracting it I run the ./setup script and the little unpacking window pops up to show me that it is working and as soon as it completes I am greeted with my system crashing back to the login-manager (kdm). I have my system set up to boot into graphical mode (init:4) so it would crash back to txt-mode aside from this. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue, or what I could do to fix it.
The second issue is Wine
I have several very nifty apps from windows that I wish to run (Adobe creative suite, Macromedia Dreamweaver... ect.) I downloaded and installed the Slackware package from winehq.com and everything went ok, but when I issue the wine command it again crashes back to the login manager with no error messages to see what the problem might be.
If anyone has any advice or has experienced any issues similar to these I would appreciate the help, Thank you in advance.

Try installing the OOffice that comes with the distro. It is built for your edition of SuSE. If the crash still happens there might be another problem to investigate.
electronique the best way would be to run level 3, startx and see which errors it gives when you're kicked to console (actually when your session manager restarts it means that X crashed and like the session manager is running it take another X up to show the login manager again).

Still having problems with this issue. Switching back to runlevel:3 does nothing but hardlock the system. Is there anyone who has OpenOffice installed on Slack that expierenced similar issues? If not what did you do to install it?
